My father a pioneer farmer to cultivate paddy and sugarcane with chemicals which he received free from the agriculture department in 1956 at village Sutagatti Tal & Dist Belgaum Karnataka. Factory based chemicals and the green revolution technology had a romantic beginning He grew about 2000MT in 30 acres. Mismanagement of soil with chemicals for decades resulted, higher water,labour and energy needs and finally by 1989 sugarcane production reached the record lowest 350MT in 25 acres. In 1990 I launched myself in agriculture. Bitter experience with chemical farming forced me to implement well planned strategies like biomass mulching to control weeds and save labor, efficient use of water with sprinkler and marginal usage of chemical fertilizers through fertigation. Mulching helped maximum natural earthworm activity and maintenance of soil moisture for a longer period in summer which enhanced crop yield. The production of sugarcane in 1994 reached 1200MT in 25 acres. In 2004 Organic Food Club got registered as NGO having 25 organic farmers as producing members in total 107 acres . ORGANIC CERTIFICATION AND MARKETING Certification by CUC for NPOP and NOP (USDA standards) since 2008. Participation in international organic trade fairs like ICCOA 2005 in Bangalore and ICCOA 2007 at Delhi and BIOFACH Bangalore in 2011 and 2013 has exposed organic jaggery products to various Indian and foreign buyers. Selling to leading organic outlets and organic processing companies of India including Yoga & Naturopathy. Direct Marketing of organic vegetables, fruits, cereals, pulses,spices and jaggery products to 600 families through Family Farmer’s Market on every Monday and Thursday in Belgaum.

How It's Made


METHODS OF COLLECTING SEEDS Cereals: Fully matured ear heads weighing more should be selected of paddy, finger millet, jowar, wheat etc for seed purpose. In case of corn 50-100 corn heads from different spots should be selected for better bio-diversity. Pulses: Fully matured and partially dried whole plant is selected, dried and then seeds are collected . Mustard seeds are collected by cutting the whole matured plant. Pumpkin,Cucumber,water-melon: Select 10-12 fruits from various creepers and collect seeds after complete maturity. Tomato: Plant having more leaves is selected and seeds are collected from matured ripe fruits. Fenugreek, Coriander: Plants which last with leaves for more days and then flower are selected and matured seeds are collected. SEEDS ARE STORED IN ASH OR DRIED COWDUNG CAKES
