The city of Mysore has long tradition of celebrating Dasara festival with pompous in the state of Karnataka. The state Government along with royal family of Mysore celebrates this festival for ten days. The festival attracts huge audience all over the world. The Mysore city and palace is decorated and illuminated during this period.
Mysore Dasara celebrations start with a pooja performed to Goddess Chamundeshwarion top of Chamundi hills with the presence of royal couple and state government representatives. Throughout the ten days celebrations, Karnataka state Government organizes exhibitions, music, dance, wrestling and food & film festivals.
On the day of Vijayadashmia grand Procession starts from the palace after royal couple worship the idol of goddess Chamundeshwari carried in golden howdah on top of elephant called as “JambooSavari” and ends in “Bannimantap” grounds. The procession consists of musical bands, folk dancers performing in the parade.
